Restoration of the interior
The interior was so kitsch! The removal of distracting elements alone was a significant improvement. The more objects we removed, the more visitors we got. The emptier the interior, the fuller the restaurant. In time, we wondered whether we should throw out our chairs and tables too.
If you can't change it, embrace it.
Reet. A very unfortunate name. Two options. Move somewhere else, or stay and make it your own with a twist. Bart chose to go the full monty. Just look at Pastorale’s logo – a stylish ass. Artfully designed and in no manner vulgar.
Welkom in ons Reet
In the 1960s, a new priest arrived in Reet. The local nuns decorated the church with a large banner stating “Welkom in ons Reet”.
That humor and playfulness are typical characteristics of people from Reet. So, also, in Bart’s creations, hence in Pastorale. They are inseparably linked to each other.
“The parsonage had been empty for ten years when I started working here in 1992. Although I had only just begun to work here, I did make the news now and then. Partly because of my creativity, but mainly because of my perseverance. Or who knows, by my looks. We will never know.”
